02 / Profile

“Progress in medicine begins with curiosity—but it earns its value only when it improves the life of a patient.”

Dr. Adel Barbara is an ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, refractive surgery, and keratoconus. A pioneer of refractive surgery in Israel since 1992, his career brings together clinical practice, innovation, scientific publishing, education, and international leadership.

He was among the earliest surgeons to adopt modern keratoconus treatments in Israel, performing Intacs in 2001, Ferrara Ring implantation in 2002, and corneal cross-linking in 2006. His approach remains defined by individualized decision-making rather than a single procedure.
